Evolution and Scope of Electrostatic Powder Coating Technology

Electrostatic powder coating is a contemporary surface finishing system that began to proliferate in Western markets (Europe and America) starting from the 1960s, and was integrated into our country towards the final quarter of the 1980s.

Despite possessing a relatively young infrastructure compared to traditional liquid painting processes, it has rapidly captured a broad application spectrum on an industrial scale and reached remarkable heights in production volumes. This technique is primarily preferred for protecting metallic surfaces against corrosion and imparting an aesthetic form. Moreover, thanks to recent technological breakthroughs, the transition toward powder coating technology has accelerated for glass, ceramic, wood, and polymer (plastic)-based surfaces.

Both the ecological contributions it offers to the ecosystem and its operational efficiency make this method an indispensable asset for the surface treatment industry. During the application phase, the powder formulation—sprayed via specialized guns operating on the principle of electrostatic charge—is subsequently cured in industrial ovens under temperature regimes suited to product characteristics. Having registered an accelerating growth trajectory since the 1960s, this market attained a massive production capacity of approximately 2000 kilotons globally in the year 2019.
